However, the servos and radio gear are not, so keep that in mind if you plan any extended outdoor adventures. The radio transmitter requires 4x AA batteries and the truck runs best on a 2000mAh to 2500mAh 3S 25C+ LiPO battery. It would run acceptably on 2S or even NiMH stick packs and there’s sufficient room in the battery tray for up to 5000mAh 2S LiPO or 3500mAh NiMH stick packs. We’ve been using 2200mAh 3S 30C packs and the truck has been perfect.

Besides great driving comfort, the modern and ergonomic cab also offers immense stowage space thanks to the seat being positioned behind the front axle. A balanced distribution of the axle loads, its quiet and safe driving characteristics and the low vehicle centre of gravity are further advantages. Once we got the drive shafts sorted out, the next thing to improve was power efficiency and torque. We installed the all-in-one HobbyWing Fusion 1200kv motor and ESC in place of the 55-turn brushed motor. The truck ships with a 55-turn brushed 540 motor, a 9kg steering servo and a pair of 4.5kg shifting servos for high/low and diff lock duties.

With the aim of ensuring our customers the maximum availability of their vehicles also in the future. "Trucks you can trust" is the guideline in all corporate units, from Development to Production and Sales to Service in the workshops. The chassis weight varies from 8.1 t to 11.5 t according to vehicle version, and the permissible gross vehicle weight from 16 to 36 t or 40 t . The standard platform body has a length of 5.1 m on the 4x4 and 6.2 m on the 6x6, with other dimensions being available at any time on request.

Especially the Zetros semitrailer tractor sets new standards in handling tough off-road challenges with high payload. At the other end of the rig are a set of four metal mud flaps. They’re attached by tiny screws in a somewhat complex assembly. The threads on a couple of ours were stripped from over-tightening at the factory. We tapped a larger thread and installed bigger hardware but found the metal quite soft. Second repair attempt was simply using a longer bolt with locking nut on the other side.
Extreme Off-Road Mobile Home: Mercedes-Benz Zetros With Mobile Home Body
For a heavy towing truck, the wheel and tire choice is completely appropriate. Tread pattern is good for an off-road capable truck and besides all that, they just look fabulous. The Zetros with Mobile Home is not your typical camp-by-the-canyon kind of vehicle. It has a massive 7.2-liter in-line six engine producing 326 horsepower, paired to a six-speed automatic transmission that puts the power to good use on all four wheels. The Zetros continues a legendary tradition and is considered the specialist for extreme terrain, thanks to outstanding traction and supreme mobility. Decades of off-road expertise and innovative technology are combined to produce this modern truck concept for extreme operations.

There’s a lot of sound under throttle, but it’s a pleasing pitch and it sounds like there’s a lot going on inside. It’s quite a fun rig to drive and again, it looks fantastic. Because of our drive shaft problems, we never really got a chance to showcase much actual driving! We’ve been enjoying the truck for some months since that initial review and it’s running beautifully.

Eight Unimog vehicles transport tourists in New Zealand to their next adventure. On a circuit full of offroad extremes, the Zetros masters every obstacle. The Unimog TenereX from Hellgeth combines absolute mobility with comfort.

It seems timely we make a follow-up video that covers all the main elements of operating this big rig outdoors. In the below video, we cover high and low speeds, diff lock, steep ascents and descents, side-hilling and even some mild rock crawling. This is a 6×6 truck with twin dual wheels on the rear axles.

The only weird part of the cabin/hood piece is the headlights, which are coloured amber rather than clear or white. It’s a strange decision but it isn’t distractingly bad, just noticeable. Experience dictating caution, we spent two evenings going over all the screws in our model to ensure everything was secured before running.
A fully completed version will then be shown at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show in Hanover on the 25th of September. Despite its luxurious focus, the Zetros mobile home hasn’t forgotten its practical roots, either. The vehicle can carry 300 liters of water and 600 liters of diesel, and power is supplied by lithium-ion batteries, backed by a solar energy system. Failing these, the car also has a separate power generator onboard. It also has two independently-operated, diesel-powered hot water systems, so you’re never without a hot shower on the go.
This is not paint but the plastic itself, which is good news for scratches and longer-term aesthetics. Both doors open, as does the hood, under which is an aluminium battery tray and the model’s radio and ESC. With the ZETROS, also known as the big brother of the UNIMOGS, Mercedes offers a relatively new off-road truck , which is specially designed for use in heavy terrain. It is used, for example, in the army or as an earthquake vehicle. Other characteristics for the Zetros are good driving features even in extreme terrain (permanent four-wheel drive), the low vehicle height and the strong 326 hp engine.
You probably have drooled over the custom Zetros of the two Mongolian businessmen and dream of something of sort. We are talking about a Zetros-based motor home , which is currently showing off its stuff at Europe’s leading trade fair for recreational vehicles, the Caravan Show in Düsseldorf. What the Zetros with Mobile Home offers is the extreme off-road capability of a Unimog, but with the load-carrying capacity of a heavy truck. Like the Unimog, the Zetros has a cab-behind-engine configuration, which makes for a spacious cab that is not too towering and thus facilitates easy ingress and egress.
However, if you ever need a bit of extra assistance, experienced colleagues at our service outlets around the world will be happy to help you. They will look after your vehicle optimally and carry out service and repair work to the same standards as our production facilities. A reliable vehicle that can smoothly and swiftly switch between paved and non paved surfaces even when transporting heavy loads. Lastly, there are several spare channels on the included radio receiver. These will be welcome if you have a trailer that needs a channel or two for tipping, support legs, third axle, hydraulics and so on. The radio suits the truck and possible intended uses perfectly.
As an offroad specialist, the Unimog presents itself at the offroad show, Abenteuer & Allrad 2021. Designed for easy operation – even in challenging situations. It provides the standard and duty concerning everything crafted today and in the future under the aegis of the Star.
Further equipment
The drive train is wonderfully tough, but that’s not all to love with this machine. The scale cabin features integrated and functional spare wheels mounted on a swing-out bracket behind the rear window. There’s ample clearance for most scale trailers on the hitch plate behind it and they just look great. The cabin itself is plastic and is coloured silvery-gray.
